Sarkar

Sarkar
Fiscal and administrative division comprising several par-ganas that emerged in the Delhi sultanate under the Lodis. It possi-bly originated in the territorial assignments held by nobles for long periods during the 15th century. Babur has reproduced in Babur-nama a list of sarkars and their estimated revenues that was based on the record of Sikandar Lodi's time available to him.
